97.1 KLSX-FM is located at 5670 Wilshire Blvd., (Cross street is Hauser), Suite 205 in
Los Angeles (90036). The building is open but elevator access isn’t granted to the public so please park on the street (parking structure is automated with no validation only credit card usage) so feel free to park on the street on Hauser (meters apply to Saturday so you may need change) or down the residential street is free parking (2 hours).

Once you park…please go to the elevators in the parking structure and go to P2 (second floor and cross the mezzanine as this is the back/employee entrance) and call the KLSX warm line at xxxxxxxxxxxxx to ask the phone op to let you in.

First Blog of the New Year!

Hey everyone! Hope you all had an amazing new year so far. I have, and I've never been happier. Last night we had the first screening of my movie The Hottie and the Nottie in Dallas, Texas, at the Regent Park Theater. It was so exciting to be watching it for the first time with a live audience and the response was incredible. It made me so very happy and proud to be a part of such an amazing project. It's a hilarious film with both a beautiful message and a fun love story...it's the perfect date movie!

My co-stars Joel David Moore, Christine Lakin, and Johann Urb are not only great actors and perfect for their characters, but are close friends as well. I had the best time on set and will never forget my time working with them. Joel, my love interest in the film, is probably one of the funniest human beings on the planet--he is such a natural comedian. I could hardly keep a straight face during scenes because he was always using improv and saying the craziest, most outlandish things. Christine, who plays "The Nottie," is one of the sweetest girls I know and is such a talented actress. Plus, I give her major props for having to go through three hours of hair and makeup a day to look the way she did for her character. Finally, Johann is not only one of the most beautiful men I've ever laid eyes on, but is also very down-to-earth and intelligent. He was a pleasure to work with on set and was a great singer, just to give you a little insight on my peeps :)

So back to last night at the premiere: after we screened the movie, we had an afterparty at The Ghost Bar, the new hotspot in Dallas at the W Hotel. It was a beautiful club and everyone had a great time. I was there with my friends from the up-and-coming band, "Forever the Sickest Kids"--check them out on their MySpace page at www.myspace.com/foreverthesickestkids . They are six musicians from Texas...I love their music and they are such sweet guys!

I hope you all like my new MySpace page--I plan to write more often now that I have the new setup...Well, I have to go now because I'm on my way to Philadelphia for another private screening of my movie. I can't wait to hear from you all, and check back soon for more updates!

NBC, which has embraced reality perhaps more ardently than its competitors, is even planning a prime-time reality special for May 11 that is being developed by and for an advertiser, Teleflora. The show — which also involves the NBC morning show “Today,” Redbook magazine and the Reveille production company — will center on a search for “America’s Favorite Mom.”
Needless to say, the winner can expect to be festooned with flowers, and a rose is to be named in her honor.
“We’re looking to be the best partners for our advertisers,” said Ben Silverman, co-chairman at NBC Entertainment, part of the NBC Universal division of General Electric. And one way to do that, he said, is “building programming assets in partnership with our advertisers.”
The trend of reality programs becoming showcases for brands is even having an impact on series in which advertisers are not paying to place products. For instance, the Clearly Canadian line of beverages is featured prominently in a reality series, “Bobby G: Adventure Capitalist,” which will make its debut Thursday on the Mojo HD network as part of a block of three business shows called “Mojo Money Night.”
The series follows the adventures — and misadventures — of Bobby Genovese, an entrepreneur in the field of so-called small-cap or penny stocks; he owns companies including the BG Capital Group and BG Capital Management.

A good deal of the plot of the eight weekly episodes of “Bobby G: Adventure Capitalist” is devoted to his efforts to revive Clearly Canadian through steps like hiring as an endorser a popular Canadian-born athlete, Steve Nash of the Phoenix Suns basketball team.
“I love brand-name companies, especially ones that have fallen on hard times,” Mr. Genovese said in a telephone interview. Even so, he added, “I had no idea the beverage business is as tough as it is.”
Mojo HD is part of In Demand Networks, which is owned by a consortium that includes Comcast and Cox Communications. The channel is aimed at an affluent audience, primarily male and ages 18 to 49.
Although brands are prevalent in “Bobby G: Adventure Capitalist,” the viewers are sophisticated enough to distinguish between programming and infomercials, said Nick Davis, executive producer of the series for Nick Davis Productions.
“We were encouraged to tell the story, warts and all,” Mr. Davis said. “If Clearly Canadian had imploded, we’d have covered it.”
The NBC special, “Teleflora Presents America’s Favorite Mom,” will be a kinder, gentler show, seeking entries from viewers in categories like single mothers, working mothers and “unconventional” mothers. A Web site, americasfavoritemom.com, has been set up to accept nominations; it can also be reached through teleflora.com.
The increasing interest among advertisers in branded entertainment is easily explained, said Lynda Resnick, chairwoman at Teleflora. “People are watching television; they’re just not watching commercials,” she said. “That is the distinction.”
But as a sponsor of branded entertainment, “you have to be integrated into the content, not added on,” Ms. Resnick said, because no one wants to watch “a talking head at the end of a show.”
“And I don’t want to bore people,” she added, so the show has to be entertaining enough to avoid playing like a program-length commercial.
The producer of the special, Reveille, is also creating reality series for NBC including “American Gladiators” and “The Biggest Loser.” Both have branded-entertainment deals with marketers like Subway restaurants, 24 Hour Fitness and Toyota.
“Advertiser partnerships support the show with media buys, with integrated promotions,” said Mark Koops, managing director at Reveille, which help “reach out for a wider audience” than the network alone could seek.
For example, Redbook, part of the Hearst Magazines unit of the Hearst Corporation, will encourage its readers to nominate favorite mothers and will feature the finalist and winning contestants from the TV special in coming issues.
“This idea Teleflora had is so of the moment,” said Mary E. Morgan, vice president and publisher at Redbook, “taking reality television and combining it with consumer-generated content.”
The reference was to the materials that consumers submit to enter the contest on the favorite-mom Web site: they can upload photographs and video clips in addition to submitting nominations.

For instance, the Clearly Canadian line of beverages is featured prominently in a reality series, “Bobby G: Adventure Capitalist,” which will make its debut Thursday on the Mojo HD network as part of a block of three business shows called “Mojo Money Night.”
The series follows the adventures — and misadventures — of Bobby Genovese, an entrepreneur in the field of so-called small-cap or penny stocks; he owns companies including the BG Capital Group and BG Capital Management.

A good deal of the plot of the eight weekly episodes of “Bobby G: Adventure Capitalist” is devoted to his efforts to revive Clearly Canadian through steps like hiring as an endorser a popular Canadian-born athlete, Steve Nash of the Phoenix Suns basketball team.
“I love brand-name companies, especially ones that have fallen on hard times,” Mr. Genovese said in a telephone interview. Even so, he added, “I had no idea the beverage business is as tough as it is.”
Mojo HD is part of In Demand Networks, which is owned by a consortium that includes Comcast and Cox Communications. The channel is aimed at an affluent audience, primarily male and ages 18 to 49.
Although brands are prevalent in “Bobby G: Adventure Capitalist,” the viewers are sophisticated enough to distinguish between programming and infomercials, said Nick Davis, executive producer of the series for Nick Davis Productions.
“We were encouraged to tell the story, warts and all,” Mr. Davis said. “If Clearly Canadian had imploded, we’d have covered it.”
The NBC special, “Teleflora Presents America’s Favorite Mom,” will be a kinder, gentler show, seeking entries from viewers in categories like single mothers, working mothers and “unconventional” mothers. A Web site, americasfavoritemom.com, has been set up to accept nominations; it can also be reached through teleflora.com.
The increasing interest among advertisers in branded entertainment is easily explained, said Lynda Resnick, chairwoman at Teleflora. “People are watching television; they’re just not watching commercials,” she said. “That is the distinction.”
But as a sponsor of branded entertainment, “you have to be integrated into the content, not added on,” Ms. Resnick said, because no one wants to watch “a talking head at the end of a show.”
“And I don’t want to bore people,” she added, so the show has to be entertaining enough to avoid playing like a program-length commercial.
The producer of the special, Reveille, is also creating reality series for NBC including “American Gladiators” and “The Biggest Loser.” Both have branded-entertainment deals with marketers like Subway restaurants, 24 Hour Fitness and Toyota.
“Advertiser partnerships support the show with media buys, with integrated promotions,” said Mark Koops, managing director at Reveille, which help “reach out for a wider audience” than the network alone could seek.
For example, Redbook, part of the Hearst Magazines unit of the Hearst Corporation, will encourage its readers to nominate favorite mothers and will feature the finalist and winning contestants from the TV special in coming issues.
“This idea Teleflora had is so of the moment,” said Mary E. Morgan, vice president and publisher at Redbook, “taking reality television and combining it with consumer-generated content.”
The reference was to the materials that consumers submit to enter the contest on the favorite-mom Web site: they can upload photographs and video clips in addition to submitting nominations.

Mr. Koops was among the executives who took over Reveille after Mr. Silverman, the chief executive, left to join NBC Entertainment. Mr. Silverman played down a perception that those ties were why NBC buys so many shows from Reveille.
“The greatest worry of all is if ‘American Gladiators’ had been a hit on Fox or CBS or ABC,” Mr. Silverman said. “Then your article is: ‘Forget the conflict of interest. Ben’s an idiot.’ ”

Our Director and Producer - Ms. Cxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and Mr. Ryuxxxxxxxxxo of
AX-ON NTV production group spoke with NTV last night. Unfortunately, they
do not have the budget to go to Vancouver to do the interview and

i wanted to address Nichole's email.
First the biz part. One of the ideas behind the show is to demonstrate and show the world this kind of technology, and that it is real and exists and can be used for many good things. Within the show's budget are the necessary experiments funded and performed. The idea behind the show is not only to achieve this, but if we deficit finance the show ourselves (as opposed to the network funding it) then we have a good shot an owning it outright, which means owning foreign markets and ancillaries, which means at minimum doubling show revenue.
The important thing to realise is that the idea here is to make the show itself a 'safe' investment - ie investors know they're getting their money back no matter what because we've sold it to a network. If we own the show outright, then there is a further good investor return from foreign tv sales, dvds, ancillaries, etc. The other part of that 'owning it' puzzle is organising the sponsors and product placement, which i am working on now with one of the largest if not the top product placement companies here in town, Legacy. Coincidentally, i have been in talks with them about partnering on the space show, and the owner loves and funds and invests in new technology - and last week he brought John's name up out of the blue when we were talking about future science. Literally Nichole this was the day before you called. Serendipity, as they say.
So i think it's really important to recognise that step one for me is making sure investors feel secure they're getting their money back no matter what, and John's experiments get performed and the world gets to see them. This establishes John as the real deal, and importantly people get to know who he is and what he's about from the show, including personality-wise and philosophically, and his unique circle of friends, which adds a bonus.

Undoubtedly because of such exposure, John will get a new flood of offers for all kinds of ventures, but while the show company is not looking to own any patents, what potentially could be done for show investors is what is called in Hollywood a 'first-look' deal - in essense where the show investors have the right to 'first-pitch' John for their own individual ventures, and John gives those investors priority over the other people who pitch him 'like' projects, and also gives the show investors the right to match any best offer for that venture. It's all about relationships and trust anyway, so if we organise the show, everyone in that group appreciates and trusts each other anyway, which in the end is what everyone wants. i've never mentioned this potential clause to Rob or John before, it came to me thinking this through, but i think everyone would agree it's reasonable and fair and fits this situation as far as business is concerned and would make everyone happy for now and in the future.

Additionally as far as how the business of the show can also be structured - this also could be done as Rockwell Collins coming in as a corporate tv show sponsor. Besides deficit financing, the other half of getting a show on the air is filling out the commercial hour with sponsors. Rockwell Collins undoubtedly has an advertising budget, so show sponsorship could potentially come out of that. i'm talking to several other potential people/groups who could deficit finance show productions costs, so i'm just piecing all this together, and i thought i'd throw out there that Rockwell Collins could come in on that commercial sponsorship level too, and could play some great ads we could even help them make at cost in return for sponsorship (i began my career in commercials - did over 100, major top national brands).

As far as addressing the skeptics - well, John gave the knock-out list. From my area, there is plenty of video from independent production companies from many countries that have come and shot their own footage themselves, witnessing everything themselves. In putting together the US tv pitch, i will probably string some of this footage together and will forward it to you. This on top of credible scientists like Hathaway who have been with John.
Taking this further, i'd like any skeptic to consider the amount of times John has been on everything from Fox to Discovery Ch - this year a nice spike in appearances alone. Why? Because he can't do it? If he couldn't, and all those crews from around the world and witnessed and shot their own footage themselves and broadcast it but knew it wasn't real would all liable for fraud. Japanese tv, Discovery Ch., Fox (who i'm in negotiations with now for space show), etc. -- they're all in some sort of conspiracy together to enable this fraud? Of course not. People here have greenlighted broadcasting the information, and we have an opportunity to guide that the right way now besides John being a segment or guest on somebody elses show.
Also, my agency is CAA, and i would never risk my relationship with them over something i didn't think was real - never ever - if this was fake this could be career-shattering stuff for me, so i thought i'd throw that in. People tend to think that Hollywood is all about red carpets and premeires and parties, but i assure you it is not. It is run on pure, cold and very hard business, and getting the agency's backing is a big deal here as CAA is the most powerful and influential agency in this town. If they back it, your credibility with the networks goes up by ten, and you have them negotiating your deal - which is substantial.
Also, why would John risk his credibility by agreeing to a television show and then not being able to do anything? Bones laid bare there.
A few months back i asked John to float specific objects (potential sponsors products) and within two days he sent me the footage.
Just want to emphasise that besides my personal full confidence in John, there is also solid business structure involved here that protects the private investor and is beneficial to the corporate investor. In other words, there are multiple options, which is nice.
Hope this helps. i'm working on the show outline now - been going over mountains of material and rehaving my mind blown. Also makes my mind race with the scientists/mathematicians i know i'd love to have John visit on the show for an episode. Will be done with this within a few days. Biz-wise i have approvable showrunners avail from CAA, but meeting one in a few days who works for Mark Burnett and has been offered three shows by Discovery and has turned them all down because he'd have to relocate to NY and doesn't want to. This show would be run out of here, and he likes the topic.

Our Director and Producer - Ms. Cxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and Mr. Ryuxxxxxxxxxo of
AX-ON NTV production group spoke with NTV last night. Unfortunately, they
do not have the budget to go to Vancouver to do the interview and
experiment. NTV would like to have the crew do the interview in Scottsdale
and obtain the footage to use on-air. They will only need one-hour to do

interview and use of footage for "on-air". What type of format is the 20

i wanted to address Nichole's email.
First the biz part. One of the ideas behind the show is to demonstrate and show the world this kind of technology, and that it is real and exists and can be used for many good things. Within the show's budget are the necessary experiments funded and performed. The idea behind the show is not only to achieve this, but if we deficit finance the show ourselves (as opposed to the network funding it) then we have a good shot an owning it outright, which means owning foreign markets and ancillaries, which means at minimum doubling show revenue.
The important thing to realise is that the idea here is to make the show itself a 'safe' investment - ie investors know they're getting their money back no matter what because we've sold it to a network. If we own the show outright, then there is a further good investor return from foreign tv sales, dvds, ancillaries, etc. The other part of that 'owning it' puzzle is organising the sponsors and product placement, which i am working on now with one of the largest if not the top product placement companies here in town, Legacy. Coincidentally, i have been in talks with them about partnering on the space show, and the owner loves and funds and invests in new technology - and last week he brought John's name up out of the blue when we were talking about future science. Literally Nichole this was the day before you called. Serendipity, as they say.
So i think it's really important to recognise that step one for me is making sure investors feel secure they're getting their money back no matter what, and John's experiments get performed and the world gets to see them. This establishes John as the real deal, and importantly people get to know who he is and what he's about from the show, including personality-wise and philosophically, and his unique circle of friends, which adds a bonus.

Undoubtedly because of such exposure, John will get a new flood of offers for all kinds of ventures, but while the show company is not looking to own any patents, what potentially could be done for show investors is what is called in Hollywood a 'first-look' deal - in essense where the show investors have the right to 'first-pitch' John for their own individual ventures, and John gives those investors priority over the other people who pitch him 'like' projects, and also gives the show investors the right to match any best offer for that venture. It's all about relationships and trust anyway, so if we organise the show, everyone in that group appreciates and trusts each other anyway, which in the end is what everyone wants. i've never mentioned this potential clause to Rob or John before, it came to me thinking this through, but i think everyone would agree it's reasonable and fair and fits this situation as far as business is concerned and would make everyone happy for now and in the future.

Additionally as far as how the business of the show can also be structured - this also could be done axxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx coming in as a corporate tv show sponsor. Besides deficit financing, the other half of getting a show on the air is filling out the commercial hour with sponxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx undoubtedly has an advertising budget, so show sponsorship could potentially come out of that. i'm talking to several other potential people/groups who could deficit finance show productions costs, so i'm just piecing all this together, and i thought i'd throw out there thaxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx could come in on that commercial sponsorship level too, and could play some great ads we could even help them make at cost in return for sponsorship (i began my career in commercials - did over 100, major top national brands).

As far as addressing the skeptics - well, John gave the knock-out list. From my area, there is plenty of video from independent production companies from many countries that have come and shot their own footage themselves, witnessing everything themselves. In putting together the US tv pitch, i will probably string some of this footage together and will forward it to you. This on top of credible scientists like Hathaway who have been with John.
Taking this further, i'd like any skeptic to consider the amount of times John has been on everything from Fox to Discovery Ch - this year a nice spike in appearances alone. Why? Because he can't do it? If he couldn't, and all those crews from around the world and witnessed and shot their own footage themselves and broadcast it but knew it wasn't real would all liable for fraud. Japanese tv, Discovery Ch., Fox (who i'm in negotiations with now for space show), etc. -- they're all in some sort of conspiracy together to enable this fraud? Of course not. People here have greenlighted broadcasting the information, and we have an opportunity to guide that the right way now besides John being a segment or guest on somebody elses show.
Also, my agency is CAA, and i would never risk my relationship with them over something i didn't think was real - never ever - if this was fake this could be career-shattering stuff for me, so i thought i'd throw that in. People tend to think that Hollywood is all about red carpets and premeires and parties, but i assure you it is not. It is run on pure, cold and very hard business, and getting the agency's backing is a big deal here as CAA is the most powerful and influential agency in this town. If they back it, your credibility with the networks goes up by ten, and you have them negotiating your deal - which is substantial.
Also, why would John risk his credibility by agreeing to a television show and then not being able to do anything? Bones laid bare there.
A few months back i asked John to float specific objects (potential sponsors products) and within two days he sent me the footage.
Just want to emphasise that besides my personal full confidence in John, there is also solid business structure involved here that protects the private investor and is beneficial to the corporate investor. In other words, there are multiple options, which is nice.
Hope this helps. i'm working on the show outline now - been going over mountains of material and rehaving my mind blown. Also makes my mind race with the scientists/mathematicians i know i'd love to have John visit on the show for an episode. Will be done with this within a few days. Biz-wise i have approvable showrunners avail from CAA, but meeting one in a few days who works for Mark Burnett and has been offered three shows by Discovery and has turned them all down because he'd have to relocate to NY and doesn't want to. This show would be run out of here, and he likes the topic.

Just hung up the phone, I got your email . I use a wireless
laptop ... to write you with .Iam always on the move ......
I know not much of who you are in your everyday world, but for
who you are with me, and for the aspects of me that you seem to

You know...this whole experience reminds me of Christmas morning
when I was a young child.Well untill 15 .... I was so enthralled with all, and the

not better to temper it, to savor the experience, to draw it out

I am going to visit Rwanda in November to highlight isuues of poverty.

This represents my post-prison commitment to use my celebrity status to highlight important causes.

I want to bring more attention to what people can do to help.

Did you know that with all the tribal warfare life-expectancy is just 39 years.

In 1994 a humanitarian crisis was sparked following the genocide of as many as 1 million people, after centuries-long tensions between the native Tutsi and Hutu populations boiled over.

According to the humanitarian group CARE, only 41 per cent of the country’s population currently has access to clean drinking water.

Scott Lazerson of Playing for Good, an organisation which helps high-end business and entertainment personalities become involved in a variety of charities in vited me and I thought I could help.

You are right. I never wear fake nails!

Basically I think they look cheap and they are dangerous.

Of course, I have my OWN makeup artist come to my house. But public nail salons are downright dangerous!

The Board of Cosmetology gets thousands and thousands of compalints.

Sometimes they cut cuticles with the same drill used for grinding down nails and use it on many customers without cleaning it or even stopping to take care of the blood spill.

Some nail salons are not licensed or are practicing with fake licenses, which are easily obtained.

And the chemical in nail salons are the same as used in an auto body paint shop.

The products are suspected or known to cause cancer and birth defects. For many dangerous ingredients, the long-term effects - five, 10, even 20 years after exposure - are unclear.

There are no requirements for ventilation or protective gear for manicurists. Masks worn by some salon workers will shield them from dust, but not fumes.

And the government isn’t making sure that the nail polishes, removers and acrylic nail products are safe - that’s up to the manufacturers.

The risk of bacterial or fungal infections from salons practicing sloppy hygiene are just too high.

The FDA does NOT have the authority to force cosmetic manufacturers to prove that their products are safe - even if the public raises concerns.

Why take all those risks for something that just looks fake and cheap?

What do you think about President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad speaking at Columbia University in New York? And what do you think about his fashion image?

You probably think that is a trick question for me. Well, it’s not! I definitely know what’s going on and I keep up with politics! Does that surprise you?

First: Fashion image? I have been wondering, did he like used to drive a delivery truck and get a lot of those windbreakers for free? I mean they do not even have his name embroideried on them. I guess because he has such a L=O=N=G name.

It would be really hard to get his whole name on there. But he could have a cute little crest on there like our presidents had on their windbreakers, you know, the navy blue ones they would wear at Camp David.

I mean that’s like an exclusive fashion item, like, you have to be President of the United States to get one. But will Hillary get one if she’s President … and what if Bill wears his old one … would that be like a fashion/political faux pas? Now that’s a real question!

But, I really think he should wear a nice suit and get his beard trimmed and that hair cut … is terrible. Maybe while he’s in New York he could get a decent makeover.

I heard last year when he was here he had no luck at the clubs. The girls just blew him off … and I can totally understand why. He so needs to update his image. I mean, he’s the president of a country and he looks worse than delivery guys.

I mean his pick up line is, how would you like to go out with the President of a country. Like, no one believed he was the president of anything much less of Iran.

Now about speaking at Columbia. I’m okay with that … if he gets a decent suit. I mean he just cannot show up wearing that delivery guy windbreaker. No one will take him seriously.

Like everyone already thinks he’s pretty wacky. I mean for Ahmadinejad to call the Holocaust “a myth” and to call for Israel to be “wiped off the map” just means he’s delusional or not too bright and his fashion sense tells you that this guy should so not be the President of Joe’s Cleaners much less a country.

It’s hard to speak in public and answer questions and with those kinds of views … I mean I had a hard time on Larry King. I can just imagine how hard it is for someone who just does not have a good grasp on reality. I think this will be very interesting. I was going to have lunch at the Ivy but NOT NOW!

I think it will be great to hear what he calls “correct and clear information.” That’s what he told people in Iran he was going to give the U.S.

I am going to watch the students and teachers forum speech and question and answer forum at Columbia University at one-thirty EDT today on CNN.
He said, “The United States is a big and important country with a population of 300 million. Due to certain issues, the American people in the past years have been denied correct and clear information about global developments and are eager to hear different opinions.”

I cannot think of a better group of people than Columbia University for the question-and-answer forum.

I mean he had an interview yesterday on “60 Minutes,” and no one protested that! He’s speaking at the National Press Club and that’s okay. Why shouldn’t he speak at Columbia?
Columbia President Lee Bollinger has refused to cancel the event and promised to introduce the talk himself with a series of tough questions on topics including Ahmadinejad’s views on the Holocaust, his call for the destruction of the state of Israel and his government’s alleged support of terrorism.
I’m watching CNN andf I hope he gets a decent suit … and preferably a complete makeover!

I was watching National Geographic Special, and there was a show about the Bermuda triangle and I saw a part about the Hutchison effect. I found your work very fascinating and interesting. I have read about Quantum Physics, could it be that when the experiment was purposely viewed by other people, the machine did not perform what was expected because it was being observed? I don't know if you have consider this possibility, but I believe in your experiment being real.

You may ask about the HGH bottle that floated in the air for the better part of 20 min. It was constant and controlled.....stunning...:)

It seemed to have 'over-driven' some of the components, I'm not sure if that is a common problem...

Your description (below) sounds absolutely remarkable.

I would very sincerely ask you to document EVERY aspect of the experience to the best of your ability - in writing would be the best, although if you'd like to schedule some time for an audio interview I could record (you have a show as well, but there might be some advantage to a targeted recording for posterity). For instance, Harold Berndt noticed a buzzing-noise like an over-driven tube-resonance right before the event he witnessed last year - a small detail that may offer us a scientific explanation, and I suspect there may be several things like this that you might not remember noticing even a month or two from now. I'm also incredibly relieved that you got this footage on tape.

Historically speaking, the problem with Hutchison has been the following:

1. Skeptics questioning the intelligence & credibility of people witnessing the effect.
2. The claim that Hutchison is "psychic" and the effect is thus irreproducible.
3. The claim that Hutchison is performing a hoax (by tipping the room upside down, hidden wires, etc)

The "psychic" or "PK" claim has been the most insidious & pervasive: it was first listed as a possibility by John Alexander, but subsequently picked up by other scientists as evidence to explain away a series of anomalies that appeared to threaten the existing paradigm of many people's scientific knowledge. In reality Hutchison's work threatens nothing, and offers a lot of potential, but psychologically this explanation has become a tool for the scientific community to assuage their guilt at having no ready explanation for the effect.

What's REALLY needed (in your documentary, hopefully), are observers who will come forward and sincerely testify about what they've seen in an accurate manner. John Alexander has done this effectively & fairly in past programs, despite never having reportedly seen the effect himself. However, most documentaries are entirely 3rd person, and it would help very much to build public interest if you could speak in a personal manner about your experience studying the paranormal and what it leads you to believe about what you've seen.

I'd like to say three things for the record on this:

First, there are a number of possible avenues for understanding how the Hutchison Effect works, and I believe all of them will lead us to an array of remarkable new technologies. While many scientists and inventors have explored a few of these in the past, Hutchison has never had the full financial & scientific apparatus to conduct a real research effort. My own belief is that with adequate infrastructure in place, it should be possible to fully harness this effect and integrate it into today's science in a beneficial manner.

Second, while John has been the victim of small minds and some irrational fear by agencies like the Canadian EPA, I do NOT believe that he has been the victim of a conspiracy to suppress his work. However, I am completely convinced that nagging doubts and a lack of understanding by the establishment has allowed this remarkable effect to "fall through the cracks" and prevent it from receiving the rigorous study that it otherwise would.

Third, Hutchison's work continues to receive interest at the highest levels of government and academia, but several groups that I'm acquaintanced with have expressed fear that they may ruin their own reputations by investing in such an unknown phenomenon. This fear is greatly compounded by several ignorantly skeptical comments that continue to circulate.

It is because of these factors that I believe what you've already accomplished has TREMENDOUS value in terms of helping to keep the Hutchison Effect in the public spotlight and encourage public interest in what may one day lead to full-fledged scientific investigation. To date, I've found that everyone with any real knowledge of this effect and it's history does not dispute that it occurs, and while there are many different speculations on the cause, I hope that your work is yet another block in the foundation of credibility that will help John's work to change our world in a positive way.

Hi john Listen, you know Yin far better than I, so I want to ask your opinion. Yin hasnt written me in a few years now, and she's never gone this long w/o writing before. I know full well she may just be busy, or unable to get on the computer. HOWEVER, since the last thing I sent her was my critique of the film she is working on -- well, I am just hoping she isn't offended. "I" WAS brutally honest. And I WAS. I was as tactful as I could possibly be, I praised HER for the so many wonderful aspects of it that ARE there, told HER I believe it to be a truly great movie in the making, but expressed that I was concerned that it wanders too much off topic at times, and that I felt that people who didn't already know the story would get lost. [edit] Plot summary
Santiago, the protagonist, grows up with poor parents who struggled their whole lives to send him to seminary. But Santiago has a strong desire to travel the world, and so his father gives him three ancient Spanish coins to buy a flock of sheep.

As a shepherd, he spends several years traveling the countryside of Andalusia in southern Spain, enjoying the care-free and adventurous life of a wanderer. As the story begins, we learn that a year ago Santiago met the beautiful daughter of a merchant in a town he is soon to revisit. Even though he spent only a few hours talking with this girl, his strong feelings for her make him question his life as a shepherd and make him consider the merits of a more settled life. He sleeps in a church where a sycamore tree grew where the sacristy once was (refer to end).

When he arrives in the Tarifa, the port before the town where the girl lives, he first decides to go to a gypsy fortune-teller to help him decipher a recurring dream that he had been having. Santiago dreamt twice that a child is playing with his sheep and then takes him by the hand and brings him to the Pyramids of Egypt to show him the location of a hidden treasure. But Santiago always wakes up just before the child is going to reveal to him the exact location of the treasure. The gypsy says that he has to go because if it is a child that tells, it exists.

At first, the boy does not mind what the gypsy says, but when an old man, who calls himself Melchizedeck, the king of Salem, tells him that it is his Personal Legend or his purpose to live, he is interested. Melchizedeck tells him a wonderful story about a man who found true happiness by fulfilling his Personal Legend. The king gives the boy two stones, Urim and Thummim, one black and the other white, the black meaning "yes" and the white "no". These, he says, are for making decisions, although it is best to make them himself. Santiago decides to travel to Africa. He sells his sheep and goes to Tangier, a port in Africa near Spain. But in Tangier, he is robbed. Losing hope, he decides to walk about the city; up in a hill, and finds a crystal shop. When the boy enters the shop, he cleans the dusty crystal glasses in exchange for some food to eat. As he is cleaning two customers enter the store and buy some crystal glasses. The Arab merchant says that it is a good omen, as business had declined and the boy had attracted two customers, and hires the boy. Santiago learns that every person's fate is written, and that there is a Language of the World (unspoken) learned partly by his dealings with his sheep.

After almost a year, the boy decides to leave the crystal shop since he has enough money to buy a flock of sheep twice the size of the one he had before, and since he has since learned Arabic, can sell to Arabic merchants too. But he never buys a single sheep. He decides to fulfill his personal legend - to find his treasure.

He joins a caravan going to the desert where the Pyramids are found. In the caravan, the boy meets an Englishman who for ten years has searched for true alchemists. The Englishman has many books on alchemy that are unusual to the boy. In the caravan, he learns the language of the desert and the Soul of the World.

As the caravan rolls on toward the oasis, the two people in the caravan decide to learn from one another. As the Englishman attempts to observe the desert and learn its language, Santiago reads the Englishman's books and learns about alchemy. The Englishman tells him that the goal of alchemists is to purify metal by heating it for many years until all its individual properties are burned. After a while, Santiago stops reading and returns the books to the Englishman, and each tells the other he is not able to learn anything. Santiago concludes everyone has his or her own way of learning things.

When it arrives in the oasis, the caravan is welcomed and told that it will not be permitted to proceed further because of tribal wars. There is an Alchemist watching the caravan enter and thinks that the omens had told him his disciple was arriving with this caravan. Santiago helps the Englishman look for the alchemist. He meets a desert woman named Fatima who tells the group where the alchemist lives. The boy falls in love with Fatima's at first sight, and tells her that he loves her and wants her to be his wife. The Alchemist's disciple turns out to be Santiago.

Santiago meets the alchemist after averting a threat of tribal attack on the oasis through a vision he has while watching the flight of two hawks. The alchemist tells the boy that he will never be happy unless he fulfills his Personal Legend. Reluctant to leave the oasis because of his love for the desert girl Fatima, Santiago tells the alchemist that he wants to stay there, accepting the new role of councilor which was offered to him by the chieftain when Santiago saved the oasis by anticipating the nontraditional attack of the tribes. But the alchemist warns Santiago that in the future he would lose his ability to see omens because he stopped listening to the omens that told him to find his treasure and fulfill his Personal Legend. As a result he would lose his position as the councilor and he would regret not pursuing his destiny of finding his treasure.

Eventually, Santiago decides to leave the oasis with the Alchemist in pursuit of his treasure. While traveling through the desert, the boy learns from the Alchemist. He learns that each person who fulfills his personal legend enhances the Soul of the World, and that the world is just here to show God's glory. The alchemist also tells the boy to listen to his heart and understand it so it will not betray him. Santiago and his heart become friends, and Santiago's heart returns to the Soul of the World. Thus, allowing Santiago to understand the Language of the World.

Santiago and the alchemist are captured along the way by one of the warring tribes. The alchemist tells the chief that they have brought money to give to him. The money is accepted without question as it can buy many arms; the alchemist then declares that Santiago is a powerful alchemist and can turn himself into the wind and destroy the military encampment if he wants to. The leader demands to see this; the Alchemist then asks for three days preparation and if they fail he offers their lives. The chief accepts, but tells them they cannot offer their lives as they already belong to him. This is the ultimate test of Santiago's knowledge of alchemy. On the third day, Santiago leads the group to the top of a cliff and tells them that the action will take a while.

Using his knowledge of the Language of the World that he learned from his heart on his journey, Santiago talks to the desert, and teaches it about love, and eventually the desert allows Santiago to use his sands, saying that he would also need the wind to blow them. Santiago turns to the wind, and tells it that it hasn't met its full limits. The wind, curious about what it could do, strikes up a conversation about love with the boy. The wind does not know how to transform Santiago into wind, and suggests the boy talk to the heavens (the sun). The boy tells the wind that it must blow the sands so he will not be blinded when looking at the sun. The boy proceeds to talk to the sun, and after the sun tells him that although he is wise, he doesn't know how to turn Santiago into the wind. The wind, overjoyed that he knows that the sun has its limits, blows even harder.

The "Simum," the sandstorm that results, almost destroys the camp. Two commanders with the chief are fearful and tell him that they should stop this. The chief replies that he wishes to see the greatness of Allah and makes a mental note to remove the two from command as true desert men are not afraid. Santiago is told to talk to the hand that wrote all. The boy turns to the hand that wrote all, as he does so the universe falls silent, he decides to pray. Through his prayer he reaches into the Soul of the World; and sees that the Soul of the World, the Soul of God, and his own soul are all one. Santiago then turns himself into the wind and moves off the cliff to the far side of the camp, he does this as the Soul of God can perform miracles and his soul is the same as the Soul of God.

After turning himself to wind, Santiago and the alchemist travel on to the pyramids with an escort party provided by the general-chief. They stop at a coptic monastery, and the alchemist tells the escort party to return to their camp. There he meets a monk and they talk in the Coptic tongue. The monk invites them in. In the kitchen, the alchemist shows Santiago a demonstration of turning a pot of lead into gold. The alchemist divides the gold into four quarters and gives the monk one of the pieces for his generosity and hospitality. He gives a piece to Santiago, and one for him to return to the oasis. He gives the final piece to the monk for Santiago in case he ever needs it. Santiago and the alchemist talk after they leave the monastery, the Alchemist tells him a story of everybody plays a role in the history of the world. They separate three hours from the pyramids. Santiago's heart tells him that he should dig for his treasure where he weeps after getting to the pyramids of joy.

When Santiago arrives at the pyramids he falls to his knees and cries, where his tears have fallen he sees a Scarab Beetle digging in the sand, an omen. Santiago starts digging in the sand but finds nothing, thieves come and steal his gold and beat him up. Santiago gives up hope, but the robber tells him that he is stupid to have traveled so far. He then tells the boy of a recurring dream in which he had seen a treasure in an abandoned church where shepherds and their sheep slept, hidden under a sycamore tree growing where the sacristy once was. Santiago, who slept in this very same church at the beginning of his adventures, goes back to the monk to get money for the return trip and finds the treasure, a chest of Spanish gold coins. He laughs at the strange way God had chosen to show him his treasure.

[edit] Fate Vs. Will
Fate is constantly intertwined with will, and a key theme of the book focuses on how much in life is under one's control, and how much is controlled by fate. The old king states that the world's greatest lie is that "at some point during our lives, we lose control of what's happening to us, and our lives become controlled by fate." While this point of view strongly supports that will has a stronger hold on one's destiny, later events, such as Santiago and the alchemist being caught by warring tribes, demonstrate fate's hold on one's life. However, in every situation where fate does take over, the characters are capable to excavate themselves from the situation. For, instance, after being caught by the tribal chief, Santiago is able to turn himself into the wind, demonstrate his power, and is released.

Love is described as a part of the Soul of the World. Love occurs in life and Nature, as everything supports each other, they love each other. Santiago tells the desert that it shows love for the alchemist's falcon by offering it game, after which the falcon shows love to man as it offers the game to eat, and the man shows love for the desert as after one dies, his body is reintegrated into the desert sands. There is also love in people, demonstrated by Santiago's love of Fatima's beauty, and Santiago's knowing that it is part of his Personal Legend to love her. Also, there is true love, a brief definition given by the alchemist; "True love is love that allows you to reach your Personal Legend."

[edit] Controlled Luck
The theme of controlled luck is prominent in this book, as the old king and the alchemist both tell Santiago about how if one really wants to fulfill his/her Personal Legend, the whole universe will conspire to help make it happen. Coelho refers to this as the idea of "beginner's luck", or the concept of favorability. Santiago is blessed with beginner's luck, when he decides to go to Africa. He manages to sell all of his sheep very easily, and is given "a taste of success" that whets the appetite to fulfill one's Personal Legend.

[edit] Spiritual Enlightenment
In The Alchemist, a kind of spiritual enlightenment is accomplished by fulfilling one's Personal Legend, and adding to the Soul of the World, which is the "light" of most religions (as described in Coelho's Beliefnet Interview). The spiritual influence of this book is omniscient, for example in Santiago's "turning himself into the wind" stunt. He learns the Language of the World, which is basically the language of the Soul of the World. As the Soul of the World is related to the Soul of God, Santiago is able to perform miracles after he has reached into the Soul of the World.

Being able to observe and read omens is a key motif throughout the book. Santiago recognizes the hole in his pouch in which Urim and Thummin fell out of in Tangier as an omen, as he had promised the old king that he would make his own decisions, not let the stones do it for him. The crystal merchant of Tangier recognizes Santiago's presence in the shop as an omen, as two customers came into the shop as he was cleaning the crystals for the merchant. Santiago later finds that going to the desert was a good omen, as he was able to meet Fatima, his love. Santiago reads omens in the flight of two hawks and has a premonition of an attack on the oasis as he is in the Sahara Desert. Omens play a key role in the unraveling of Santiago's fate.

The Personal Legend is a being's reason to live. Everything in the world has a Personal Legend, and by reaching one's Personal Legend, they add to the Soul of the World, the purity of the world. The boy's Personal Legend is obvious, to find his treasure at the Egyptian pyramids. The alchemist fulfilled his Personal Legend, to become a true alchemist and accomplish the Master Work. The crystal merchant's Personal Legend is to visit Mecca, and the Tarifa baker's Personal Legend was to travel the world. The Personal Legend of a person surfaces at childhood, and one can never find true happiness without fulfilling it. The Personal Legend of Santiago drives him to his treasure, as he chose to accomplish his Personal Legend, and the alchemist to become the most famed alchemist in the world. While others like the Tarifa baker and the crystal merchant, choose to ignore the Personal Legend, and thus shape their life to be forever wanting.

[edit] The Elixir of Life/Philosopher's Stone
The two alchemy objects are physical representations of the Soul of the World, the Master Work, which is the result of completely purifying metals. The Philosopher's Stone, being completely pure and powerful as the Soul of the World, has the property of turning metals into gold, the most advanced ("evolved") and purest of all metals. The Elixir of Life cures all illnesses and gives immortality. These objects represent the purity in the world, and in people trying to reach their Personal Legend.

[edit] Similarities with other works
The plot draws largely from an English legend, "The Pedlar of Swaffham"[2], which has been also used by Leo Perutz in "By Night under the Stone Bridge" and Borges' Tale of Two Dreamers, collected in Universal History of Infamy, according to Critic Neerav Bhatt.[3].

An even earlier possible source is in the work of the 13th century Persian poet Jalal al-Din Rumi, who in one of the stories of his Mathanawi (written between 1260 and 1273) tells an almost identical tale. In a modern translation the story (told in verse) is titled "In Baghdad, Dreaming of Cairo: In Cairo, Dreaming of Baghdad". (The Essential Rumi, transl. Coleman Barks, New York: HarperCollins, 1995) In it, a poor man in Baghdad who inherits a lot of money and land only to squander it quickly and become poor again has a dream, in which a voice tells him to go to Cairo and dig in a certain spot to find his wealth. When he gets there, while wandering the streets and begging for coins he is picked up by a night patrol. When he tells his story to the patrolman, the latter calls him a fool and tells him of a similar dream (which he had dismissed) about a place in Baghdad, describing the very street and house in which the poor man lives.

Many have compared The Alchemist to Saint-Exupéry's The Little Prince, a children's book about another boy, the Prince, who leaves his home in search of greater things, learning valuable lessons about life and love on the way. It is interesting to note that much of The Little Prince also takes place in the desert.

There are many parallels to Siddhartha's journey in Herman Hesse's Siddhartha. They both develop a spiritual aspect being alone early in life. Later, just like Siddhartha on his journey, Santiago has to become a business man; his ideas succeed in making him wealthy, but he is apart from the business of business. The Alchemist parallels the boatman in Siddhartha, who, after transporting Siddhartha across the river, sends him on his way to follow his destiny, knowing he will return. The love story develops and ends differently; Santiago has a different Personal Legend in that aspect. Both are "spiral" stories with the same places visited more than once.

Some have also compared and contrasted this story and the journey of Santiago to the Biblical account of the Prodigal Son.

The style of writing is simplistic, with correlations to that of The Little Prince, fairy tales, or spiritual writings. The novels is narrated by an omniscient narrator and the diction is related to stories/tales from the Qu'ran, the Bible, and Egyptian mythology.

The Alchemist was #94 on "The BBC Most Read Top 100" List in a survey conducted in April 2003.[4]

Originally written in Portuguese, it has, as of 2004, been translated into fifty-six languages, and has sold more than 40 million copies in more than 150 countries, making it one of the best selling books of all time.

In China & Australia it has gained particular success. The Herald Sun listed it as one of the five most commonly stolen books from Melbourne's book shops.

In the foreword, Coelho explains that this is a symbolic version of his experience described in The Pilgrimage.

[edit] Film, TV or theatrical adaptations
A motion picture version has been in development at Warner Bros. since 2003, with Robert Schwartz and Stephen Storer producing, as a vehicle for Laurence Fishburne, although Coelho has stated on his website that he has tried to buy back the rights to the film for the sum of $5 million.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Laurence Fishburne and indie production company A-Mark Entertainment have bought the rights to make a movie version of the novel, with Fishburne set to direct. Since 2003 the adaptation had been set up at Warner Bros., as a vehicle for Fishburne (who also wrote the script), but the project had stalled. Coelho's novel, about a world-traveling Spaniard who seeks Egyptian treasure but eventually finds spiritual enlightenment, is an international best-seller; the new filmmakers are said to be envisioning their project as an adventure film — Harry Potter meets Indiana Jones.[citation needed]

In his "To Die Alive is to Take Risks" interview with Beliefnet[5], Coelho states that people often go to the movies, and after watching it, say that the book is much better. He reasons that people make the clearest film in their minds.
